I really cant wait to see what August/September brings. We aren't really shooting any bucks this year but we are going to have to shoot A LOT of does. Should make for a fun season though.

This should be a really productive year buck-wise on our place... I'll be knocking out my doe duties opening morning if I'm able!

Is that last deer the double drop 2 year old from a couple years ago?

No. It looks a lot like him but it is a different buck. The guy I posted above probably just edged out the double drop last year. They look A LOT alike but still waiting to see if the Double Drop is still around and what he looks like this year. They should both be 4 this year.

Didn't see a single one when I went down 2 weeks ago.

Had a rough time with feeders not working and cameras either not working, knocked off by cows or memory cards full before the good growth pictures started.

We recently had cows bust all our feeders down, we fixed what we could and replaced the rest. Really hurt us since we had some decent young deer coming in everyday.

I'm glad I haven't had cattle the last several years. Last summer was terrible but it can't compare to this year. I've never seen so much brown brush in September!

Deer seem to always respond better to corn on the dry years with less to eat.

As long as we don't get a lot of rain fast, it can rain all weekend for all I care. I'm sure someone will be by soon to say deer don't move in the rain...

I agree. I am not going to hunt until November this year. Just finished elk hunt and really not mad at the deer right now. We need to shoot a couple of culls/management bucks/does but nothing that can't wait 6 weeks till it cools off a bit.

I live in Encino south of Falfurrias, we got 2" of much needed rain yesterday and have been getting some drizzle/light showers today. May not help the deer hunting much but hopefully we can grow a little more cover for the quail before it gets too cool. It's been soo hot and dry its rough on the birds and fawns but looks like we will be ok now. We were lucky and got quite a bit of rain this spring and I think it helped antler growth. Looking forward to hunting season, this will be my first year to bow hunt and that has brought a whole new level of excitement to things.

I imagine most of the places on old mines road between eagle pass and Laredo got similar rainfall. That brush is going to be green and thick well into the season with a floater like this hitting. Going to make for some hard hunting.

Yes sir, it is going to be tough to see deer this season. My place was really dry so I will take it and deal w the tough hunting conditions. Better get those Thermacells out.

Ranch reported 6 more inches last night. That's 22 inches total. High fences along the main road off 83 are down. Might get that bucket list elk without leaving Texas.

We have gotten 10-1/2" inches. As of this morning. We are near Catarina, past the Briscoe mansion off 2688. This was sent to me on one of our cameras yesterday afternoon and this morning.

Local Channel 5 news in San Antonio was showing two oilfield drilling rig crews that were evacuated due to rising flood waters along the Nueces River bottom area. Said over 70 on one and 100 on the other when fast rising waters had them on top of vehicles and equipment. Showed 12"+ totals for yesterday alone in those areas and was still raining in the evening.

Yep as I stated above, one of those "rescues" was on our pasture. I think "rescue" might be a little hyperbole but they were definitely stuck and not getting out without help from what I hear. We are pushing 15" now.

A buddy is coming in Monday to start hunting this 10 yr old buck. If he gets him, it will be his biggest buck yet and his 3rd bow buck.
