Headed out in the morning for three days. Everyday last week got better an better. Hope it still is an the cold front gets the shooters moving as well.

I was in Menard this past weekend. There is a bumper crop of chiggers and the rattle bugs and other snakes were definitely on the move. Not bad feeder activity for the deer. The most hog activity I have seen.

I got up on the 24th of September and filled feeders and finished my last cattle panel blind just in time before the rains came again and now I am wondering when I will get to hunt. I want to go on Sunday but now they are saying Hurricane Sergio will be moving across Mexico and into Texas over the weekend. Good luck to all of you fellas.

I was up there this week end at the end of Waddell Rd. I only hunted a couple times as we were adding another 24'x24' on the metal building. Deer were not moving much at all.

This will be the second year in a row (that I know of) that the season will be open the weekend after New Years Day. Last year I saw more and bigger bucks moving than any other time of the season.
I already have that weekend marked on my calendar, this year now.

Good luck to you guys that are hunting this weekend. We will be going next Thursday. I hope you guys stay dry. It looks like they are projecting another 2 to 3-inches from Sunday through next Thursday.

He's already talking about a covered skinning rack now. I think he plans on taking full advantage of some one who builds metal buildings for living. He is one fine man though and always enjoy his company.

I had a little over an inch of rain yesterday and the forecast is for more over the next 4-5 days. The ground is saturated and any moisture that falls is going to run off. I would avoid low lying areas as draws and creeks will overflow following a heavy downpour.

I’m coming in from New Braunfels via Fred and Mason.

Ready to get in a bowblind for a few days, but road conditions have me worried.

I’m right there with you. I’m heading out in the morning to go to Brady. Was thinking about taking the loop north around Austin to avoid any issues.

According to the covert the deer are really hungry after this cool front! Most action I have had at my feeder since Labor Day weekend. Axis are still MIA though.

Our axis are gone too. Blackbuck are everywhere though

By my cameras the last few days. The deer are really hitting my feeders hard. I’m seeing good numbers at both wireless cameras

We have received another inch of rain today. Water is running everywhere as the ground was saturated. Sun is supposed to make a little showing tomorrow and Friday then sunshine over the weekend. All the draws are running water and I am sure that the river will come up just a little.

Thanks Gary for the update. I start my five nights tomorrow and struggling if I want to head to menad or head to east Texas when I get off next Tuesday morning . It’s going to be muddy in both places but at least I won’t be rutting up the roads in Menard.

This is a good site when looking at rain. LCRA has different rain gauges scattered around.

From phone click on 3 horizontal lines in top right corner. Then click the drop down menu and choose what you are looking for. Should be able to find a rain gauge pretty close to you.

We hunted the past weekend after receiving 8in of rain and there were forbs popping out everywhere, especially yellow wood sorrel (looks kind of like clover) which is great grub for deer. We saw some decent feeder activity but I don’t think the feeder activity is going to get really good until It gets colder since there are fresh forbs and browse everywhere. They aren’t even hitting the oats and wheat very hard at this point. I’ll take the rain anytime we can get it though.

Got up as high as 18 ft. but that does not put it on the bridge. The river has had a lot of rises on but right now is back down but running a lot of water.
Sun is shining this afternoon for the first time in a while.

This weekend was more what I expected hunting. Lots of deer. Hitting the feed pretty hard.

It is drying in some areas but anywhere it is flat, still very wet when you break through the crust. Now they are saying that we can expect rain again on Wednesday which will make it extremely difficult to get around this weekend. If it does rain as expected, I recommend that you stay off all unimproved two track roads in a pickup, use UTVs, ATVs only. Good luck and stay safe out there.
The Hunter's Blowout is this weekend.

Callan Lane is a wreck but then so is every county road in Menard County. Yesterday, wunderground was predicting about an inch for today but now they are back to nearly half an inch. If it falls pretty fast, might be better than if it just hangs around all day. Light drizzle falling this morning turning to rain this afternoon. I will give you a report once this front moves through. Hogs are everywhere; they love the wet pastures and cooler temps. A couple of buddies were south of town last weekend and killed 10 with crossbows and Clint killed three from the pickup while trying to check on cows.

I would appreciate an update early next week as I am coming up Wednesday night.
I guess we are lucky, I have only seen 1 hog in 15 years on our place. That was on a game camera, and was last year.

got back last night from a 4 day hunt and left due the incoming weather. feeder activity was the best I have seen so far this season numbers went from 3/4 deer per sit to 10/12. im gonna say the rain has rotted my acorns

I passed on a 125 10 point that took everything I had to hang my bow back on the hanger lol

My place is about 10 miles north on Callan Lane.
