...What to do? Are there any last minute places or draws to look into? Is it possible to get in a decent draw now or is it too late?

Hunt standby. Call the WMA the week of the hunt and ask if there are going to be any standby spots for that hunt period. Some will/ some won't.

You may still go away without getting to hunt, but if you get to hunt, it will not affect your preference points.
