I did one with the drywall tape then a linen faux snakeskin on top of that. It turned out really nice and I shot it every day until it broke when it was about a year old.

Here a pic of the one I was talking about. The drywall tape under the Faux snake skin gives it a scale texture. You can get that faux skin from 3rivers.

You can back a bow with deer hide ...it works very well...

That faux snake skin is interesting
