"However, here is the finished project (flaws and all) "

A turner will always find flaws that usually no one else will see. I have turned a lot of bowls and each one has had flaws, you will never be able to create a piece of art that is flawless. The good thing about turning a bowl is usually you are not trying to reproduce something so if you have a small chip out then you can keep removing material and it will work out better. I have had alot of pieces turn out way better than I ever thought they would because at the beginning I made a mistake and that mistake drove me in a different direction. Looks great to me!!!
              What chisels are you using.

Thanks Kevin. I used a Nova G3 chuck and a Sorby 3/8 bowl gouge with a fingernail grind.

When I first attempted the bowl I had a catch and actually broke the mortise and had the bowl fly across the garage You can see the catch on the bottom of the 2nd pic and the damage on the 3rd.

Wow very cool I think it turned out amazing!

Someday I'm going to buy a wood lathe. Then it can sit in the corner of my shop and collect dust. Lol
