Can't begin to express how proud I am of my better half. She's been around hunting her whole life but never had the desire to really get out herself. Well after many years of my "inspiration", and a few tough sits earlier this year, we were finally able to get her on a GREAT first deer. Heck, first anything.
She used my dad's crossbow and made a perfect shot. Rage went to work. We let him lay for about 40 minutes (because in my mind, he was a dead deer in 5 minutes). Well, we ended up tracking him, with awesome blood, for about 75 yards and he was still up - doing the slow hurt walk. We were quiet enough that he didn't spook and we just watched him for about 10 minutes until he laid down. Another 15 minutes or so and he was down for the count. Watching him go got my wife a little emotional but it was one of the most amazing things I've seen and really shows the strength of these animals (she double lunged him...).
Almost like the big guy upstairs instantly answered my prayer when I pleaded in my mind for him to lay down. It was a amazing first deer experience for her and she truly got to experience what it means to harvest an animal.
She's pumped. Already talking about wanting to get into a bow of her own and start practicing for next time.
Y'all give her a round of applause for sticking out the hill country chill this morning with only rain boots too. Forgot her insulated boots back in Houston.
God is good. All the time.
