    I'm not a glock fan.

Here's my suggestion. Guns on Left on Price on Right

    Sig 229 7-800
    HK USP 7-800
    Springfield XDm 650
    Walther P99 650
    Taurus PT140 350-400

I don't know too much about handguns but want to buy a good one. I've heard H&K, Sig Sauer and Kimber are good ones but don't know which one to look at. I will use it mostly for target shooting around the Farm but keep it handy for emergencies (Heaven forbid). I also plan to get my Concealed Permit once I buy one.

      Thanks in advance.

Stick with simplity that works. Go with a Glock, an M&P or an xD. All basically the same style of pistol from different manufacturers. The feel of the handles are the main difference with a little difference in the trigger pulls.

Stay away from the double/single, two different trigger pull models from any brand. They are harder to learn to shoot accurately, are no more reliable and cost more to purchase with no benefit as to an increase in reliability or quality.

That would be my list from top to bottom.

Putting one more vote in for a Glock 23 (mid sized 40 cal). Have one, love it, would not trade it for anything, and trust it completely.

I would go with an XD40, I really like mine. You should also check out the 1911's. I have the Taurus PT1911 and it's the smoothest pistol I've owned

You can't go wrong with a Sig P229, I have the .40 and love it, also have a .357 barrel for it so two for one.

I would suggest you shoot the .40 and .45 prior to making the decission. The .40 can be a bit snappy for some and if you go with a "plastic" frame it's worse.

If your ever in the Dallas area let me know and your more than welcome to shoot my .40.

Don't listen to Travis, Glock makes an awesome weapon.

If it fits your hand ok, I don't like the angle of the grip at all!

Glock and Sig are great. Unless you shoot a lot and plan on practicing a lot, I'd stay away from a colt framed pistol. Point and shoot is better.
