    Deer With Black Eye/Nose

Normally whitetails have white rings around their eyes and nose.

Is this deer sick or not a whitetail? Or just have a different pigment in the skin?

I've got at least two of them coming in.

Fun to see something a little different.

I agree with those that said the melanistic whitetail doe. When she slicks off her summer hair I'd bet she is smokey black this winter....

Well it will be interesting to keep an eye on them. I will post up if the coats start to get darker.

Appears to be a whitetail and if so, definitely a weird color anomaly. Every place that is supposed to be white (throat patch, eyes, nose ring, underside/belly, inner legs, etc.), other than the underside of the tail, isn't. Be interesting to see the inside part of the ears. You can always contact John Baccus at Texas Tech. He's one of the leading authorities on color phases in deer.
