    Best Rearview Mirror Adhesive?

Wife's rearview mirror fell off. Again. Last time, about 1 year ago, I used Permatex rearview mirror adhesive. This time I tried their extra strength version but it didn't even last 5 seconds. I followed directions to a 'T'. Her rearview mirror is a bit heavy (BMW) because it has compass, 3 door opener buttons, auto dimmer and I don't know what else. What have you found to be the best adhesive for this?

Gluing anything to glass presents a problem. If the inside of the windshield doesn't have a plastic film (some do) clean with acetone and try it again with the same stuff. Permatex is usually good stuff but as with any adhesive, if there is even a fingerprint on the glass it will eventually fail.

take a little sandpaper and scuff up the windshield and base of the mirror where they connect. Having a non-smooth surface will help it stick.

I cleaned the windshield very good w/the stuff it comes with. I can't scuff the windshield because it has some black film (rain sensor I believe) where the mirror button mounts. I did lightly sand the button. Any other ideas?

Take it to a windshield replacement place like safelite auto glass.... I bet they can get it done right.

I've always used 2 part epoxy.

                    That's for the outside mirrors.

Make sure the old glue is off the button.
Use 2 drops of glue max.
Mount the button back on windshield but do not hang mirror for 24 hours.
do not apply on hot windshield, or direct sun light

                        Good luck.

sell the car, not worth the pain of the mirror falling off
