I tired to put an old license plate over and the the little rats peeled it off. So I went old fashion and used a heavy rock and ratchet strap. Squirrels then counter attacked by chewing strap off the ratchet strap. And crawling inside to eat.

So I used an old street sign and attached it to lid. Click image for larger version

It would be a lot easier to just get a steel barrel feeder!

That would take all the fun out of it

They will likely chew the side. I had a plastic feeder out for a few years with no problem. One squirrel figured it out and it was all over.

Will coons chew out the sides of a plastic barrel like that too? I hate corn bandits.

LOL - I used to work for a guy who put ears of corn on a skeet thrower and launched squirrels out over a lake. Great GC pics!

Dang I'm glad I don't have squirrels. Theiving racoons don't seem so bad.
