Correct, but they could go from Texas to LSU and play immediately right? I could very well be misinformed on this

Yes, but they could do that before hand except a coach may say no to LSU because they were on the future schedule. It's really not that big a deal IMHO.

They still had to sit a year regardless of where they transferred(grad transfers excluded) before the new rule. That was a pretty big deterrent for a lot of kids. Now they won't have to or inform anyone of their intentions. Transfers are going to exponentionally skyrocket imo. The majority of coaches are not on board with it.

I still think it only has to do with permission, schools canít be blocked.

Still sit unless grad transfer, if youíre a grad transfer you donít have to sit.

Alabama, it's coaches, and the REC already working the system

Ale Kaho (5* ILB) signed his 2018 LOI to play at Washington. He never enrolled and due to personal reasons, claims he wanted to be closer to home in Nevada. Peterson released Kaho from his LOI 2 days ago, and the kid immediately commits to ALA. Tosh Lopi and the REC had to be in communication with this kid advising a scholarship would soon be available. Kaho is illegible to play immediately and does not have to sit

Crazy how ALA loses 3 LB's in July (quit, injury, kicked off team) and Kaho just fills right in. Is it tampering ?? Who knows, but I can assure you ALA will never get caught with their hand in the cookie jar ... to much $$$ and power.

10-4. That's not as bad but certainly not ideal. I'm not sure where I got the idea they didn't have to sit, thanks for clarification!

Not taking anything away from the 2018 class but Herman had help. Sumlin was dead man walking and Stoops fortuitously stepped down. It was made easier when your two main rivals could be negatively recruited. With Riley looking like a formidable foe and Jimbo not going anywhere, it wonít be as easy to cherry pick. Herman will need to start winning more games this year. Jimbo will likely get the benefit of the doubt this year. But his honeymoon wonít last long either. Riley (albeit with Bob Stoopsí recruits) is already winning.

No doubt, this area could get crazy if all three are winning.

It is going to be different. BAMA has one or two OL transferring and I believe they can go ahead and play. One or both to UT.

I was in favor of the ďif you graduatedĒ part of it but not so much the undergraduates transferring out.

Stumbled upon this the other day. Thought it was pretty interesting. A semi-historical summary of comparing where teams start the year in the rankings, and where they end the year in the rankings.

Makes sense to me.

Every year the goal is the same. Win the national championship or take meaningful steps towards it. Anything less is not living up to expectation.

That's... not really the point. Their data isn't about "goals" or "steps." Their data is tracking perception vs. reality, right?

It's entertaining. With Texas and USC, both have gone through multiple coaching changes over the last 8 years, yet still recruited at a high level and had a ton of success in the early 2000's.

I can understand why they get ranked.

Looking at his twitter feed and you see teams that haven't won anything in nearly 80 years being the most overrated in their conference. Those type of findings are fun facts.

Right... some teams that made me scratch my head were TAMU and UCLA. Tends to be a fairly large gap between perception and reality with those 2 programs, and there is really nothing in recent memory that justifies "WHY" we inflate them every pre-season.

Inflate them for early season matchups. Make the teams that beat them look better to the casual observer.

I know it doesn't mean much.....but CBS seems to have Texas at 10-2 or 11-1.

As I have said, no excuses. It's time to win in Austin.

Donít look past Maryland! Win that game and maybe a run is possible. Schedule looks favorable with so many unproven QBís on the schedule.

True. Going into "Year 2" is when the real buy-in takes place, the kids that were still stuck in the Charlie ways are gone and I have a feeling it's going to be a significantly different product on the field this season.

The Maryland game seemed like a complete anomaly last year. The team didn't play like that the rest of the year on defense. Only 2 teams scored more than 28 points on the Texas D during regulation last year and that was the big one.

This. I'm not buying in until I see an O-line that can actually run block and pass protect. Until I see that, they are just a 7-6 team.

Im with you on that. Sure would be nice to see the QB be able to drop back without having to run for his life. Keep hearing how they are going to be a much better team but not holding my breath until I see it.

BoB will be on suicide watch. This cannot continue.

No way will they be NO BETTER than last year and they lost several games at the wire. They have to improve or I will personally run CTH out of town on a rail.

First two sentences are true. As with any team they could be 6-0 or 1-5 after 6.

Losses to Maryland, USC, TCU, KSU and OU are easily possible. Surely not Maryland again. Ugh.

Is the cupboard half full or half empty?

Perception is always going to favor an optimistic view. If not, you probably need to find a new sport to follow. The reality is, National Championships are scarce unless you're "5 of last 9" Alabama.

Goals and steps toward national titles are what drives perception.

When reality does not live up to perception, coaching changes happen. That's why the Longhorns and Aggies are both being led by new regimes.

I hope you're right.

My biggest fear is that inexplicable loss to the team you should beat. The 2005 NC team was down 28 to 12 at halftime to Ok State before they found their rhythm. I see this as one of those stepping stone years where you just can't afford any mistakes.

At the end of the first 6 games, we should know exactly what we have.

There's a lot of teams on that list that will not roll over and go quietly.
