MulieThumper, you can call me at 936-615-9620, but do it in the evenings. I don't have a problem talking about pig hunting during work but my boss might....

I have an 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son that could use some woods time. Would you prefer a PM or will a post here suffice to get on the list.

I've got 2 guys interested.
One has teenage boys and the other has a grown son they'd like to bring.
Not sure of their schedules yet.
We'll get together Sunday after church to coordinate that.

What time frame are you looking to fill..
Like a morning / evening or vice versa or a weekend...

By order of the Green Screen, if you make this trek we demand a “live hunt” thread. But we ask that the updates involve the journey as much as the hunt itself.

OP. Very generous on your part. I am in to see how things go!

If anyone wants to spend the weekend chasing them or just come for the day it will be up to whoever comes. Like I said, it would be primative accomodations unless you want to stay in Nacogdoches.

Why don't you find some East Texas boys to trap them. Shooting will scatter them and they will disappear and be back in a month or so..

OK, let me be clear about one thing. I know perfectly well that this is not the best and most efficient solution to my problem and don't expect the problem to go away permanently this way. But I am not willing to give the keys to my lease to someone I don't know to continually check hog traps. Besides, I have hogs and there are lots of folks that would like to hunt them, like MetalMan 2004. This young man doesn't have a lease and has been hunting public land and would like a different opportunity. Unfortunately the score is Hogs 1- Hunters 0. The feeder where they had been coming regularly during the day was empty so they may have moved somewhere else short term. Got the feeder filled back up and corn scattered in a couple of places but nothing came in for him. I have found in the past that if you shoot a few pigs off a feeder they will stay away for awhile and that is all I can hope for. Starting the weekend of the 21st there are TBHers coming every weekend thru the middle of August. Myself, or them, will keep everyone posted on how it goes. I had one of my members see what I was posting and said that we can hunt his feeder also so that gives four spots to hunt. I will check his feeder and make sure it has corn in it.

Thanks again Russ for being so hospitable. If I had been able to stay until dark no doubt I would have been leaving with some meat. The day was just a bit too hot for them. Setup is great and its a nice piece of property for sure. Sometimes the generousity of people on this forum amazes me.

I was out on public land yesterday and covered about 3 miles in places I always see hogs.... I didn't see the first one. A friend of mine was out friday morning and same thing. Idk what happened to the moment but seems like deer and hogs just quit moving. Hopefully they will be back moving next weekend

FIFY

My buddy hunted near Russ' house and ran out of arrows He killed 4 that we found and 2 or 3 got away.

And out there they seemed to flood the woods right near dark. Some great eating sows. I got one right at 200# and it was really good.

MetalMan, I hate to tell you this, but while you sat at the one feeder and seeing nothing I had them at the other feeder just about 200 yards thru the woods. The day I was out there and mowing around that feeder there were pigs at it 15 minutes after a picture of me on my tractor mowing.

That is my problem with more than one stand set-up...while you're sitting at one not seeing anything you just know that the deer are swarming your other set.

It would be fun to hunt in those woods. The plains of West Texas are fun, but it'd be fun to be in a different environment.

Well, round 2 of "Man vs. Food- east Texas version" begins this evening. Just carried a couple of TBHers out to the lease and got another showing up a little later. Hopefully I will have results to post tonight or tomorrow.

Well, just had the first snafu since I first posted this. The other guy that was to come this evening found out he wouldn't be the only one out there and decided not to stay- concerned about safety with not knowing where everyone is. I can understand his concern but I didn't do it on purpose and tried to explain there would be little chance of anything happening this evening since there five spots available to hunt. Tomorrow they could all coordinate each other's placement. Anyway, I have checked my notes and don't think I have another instance of this. Let me post who is coming when- for all those scheduled if you have no problem with another TBHer joining you let me know- still have folks wanting to know if there any openings left.

Nothing open but Staplehawk said you could join him that weekend. The guys last night didn't kill anything at a feeder but jumped some while walking a game trail but couldn't get their guns up fast enough. Gotta be prepared for anything at anytime.

OK Chris, I have you down. I have jvswan interested in coming the end of August but hasn't confirmed a date. Due to my recent shoulder surgery it looks like I will be missing my first bow season in over 30 years but out of respect for my lease members I am making Labor Day weekend the last opportunity for someone to come out.

Thanks again, Russ! We’re excited to get out there!

This will be our first time hunting. What should we bring? Should we bring a portable blind or are there some set up? Do you have a preference for they type of corn? We’ll bring a bunch to leave with you.

Another newbie question... when you take a shot, do you shoot them right below the feeder? Or do you wait until one is away from the feeder to take the shot?

There are blinds already set up. The corn you buy at Academy is fine. Shoot them wherever you see them.

Mighty fine of ya to offer this Russ!

If ya have any lease openings in a year, let me know. I'd just as soon kill pigs as I would deer. In fact, a pig lease would be just fine.
