I’ll make a long story short, I was helping my parents move this weekend, which left my wife with my very “precocious” 3 yr old & 18 month old. I got in at 3 and really wanted a dove hunt before the rain set in, but I could tell my wife was a bit frazzled from the weekend, so I offered to take the 3 yr old with us, after all it was going to be an easy hunt 🤣 over a waterhole with corn in the vicinity.
Well the well feeding the waterhole shutoff and my neighbor hadn’t checked it recently, the water hole was just mud, but hey we were out and there were a few birds in the air and we had the only line of trees for as far as the eye could see (its Lubbock area so that’s meaningful).
My son has gone through a box of clay pigeons practicing since July. He has broke exactly 3 in those practice sessions. That little turkey hit the 1st two to come by, both crossing R to L (he shoots lefty, so that’s a tricky swing)! He finished up with 5 kicked down, all on the wing (no fenceline or resting in tree shots). My daughter had a good time, feathers stuck to her face and hair from “petting” birds.
Best evening I’ve had in a good while. We killed 14 total. Not bad for what looked like a busted hunt.
