Default My New Secret Weapon!!!

...at least I’m hoping so! We just got my daughter her first dog which is a 10 month old 58 lb black lab/pointer mix. Her name is Onyx and as soon as I get some blood to start training her I’m hoping she’ll be my new secret weapon for wounded animals. She’s very sweet and I’ll have to get her use to other animals but hopefully I’ll have some good results/news and will try to keep everyone updated on her progress.

You will love having a deer dog. My Lacy dog, Bonnie, is 13 and a half years old now and found several for people last year. It has added a whole other dimension to hunting. Hope your's is as good as mine has been.

My labs ate fire wood till they were 2 yrs old. If she doesn't have an antler to chew on yet. Perhaps?

Yup my lab takes any branches i trim off the trees and tries to eat them. They're great trackers, I've taken mine out to see how she picks out hog trails I know get used, and she does it with ease. until she wants to play while working lol.

my sons lab is nothing but a pet, the very first blood she crossed she tracked . I had shot a hog outside the back door of my shop with a 45acp,, hog was pouring a great double trail.... I wish she had gone farther than 50 yards but I let her and my boxer out at the same time,,, she walked across the blood and turned around and followed to the hog. the boxer was the real surprise, he threw his head up and ran a straight line to the hog beating the lab by almost a full minute...

I have had this happen three times now , the lab has no problem following the trail, the boxer by passed all of them and made a b line to the hogs,, non were in sight and only one made as far as 70 yards,,, all 3 were close shots with a 45 acp hp and double trails,, there was really no training that I did at all just turn them out the back door!
