Llano river bridge thread got me thinking

What does MSL mean in regards to lake levels?

I googled What does MSL Level mean. This was the first result....

There's 2 at the top that make sense.

    Mean Sea Level
    Meters above Sea Level

So will someone educate me on what it means and how it's calculated?

    Mean Sea Level

Its the elevation above sea level. So if a lake's level is say 602, it is 602' above sea level

Lake elevations are measured in feet above mean sea level.

The number is not the depth of the lake. The number is the pool elevation of a lake over sea level.

              Thank you.

So how does one know how deep a lake is?
              Pool Level?

              So Tawakoni is 437' deep?

No, that number has no bearing on the depth of the lake. Just the surface elevation in relation to mean sea level.

If you really want to know depth of a lake you can look here.

The lake could be 2 foot deep and 500' msl

According to TPWD Tawakoni's max depth is 70 ft.

When it's at normal pool the surface of the water is 437.5' above mean sea level. Right now it's a 2.29 feet high. You'd have to find the elevation of the deepest point of the river bed (presumeably at the dam) to find it's depth.
