    Gun stock repaint

Well stated prepping my Savage 12 stock today, with the hope of painting over the next week or so.
I got some modeling clay and filled all the holes after taking bottom medal etc. Off.

Just need to clean and sand and I'll be on to the primer. Any tips feel free to send them along!

Just wondering why you used clay instead of just taping it off? Seems like more work putting in the clay than taping with less cleanup later....

I thought about taping, but from the little I did try tape just didn't want to stick to the stock. Clay will be more work, and probably tough to clean up, but it gave me a nice line exactly where I needed it... In theory... Well see how it works when I'm done!

Haven't seen that approach before. Keep us posted how it works! Lots of ways to skin a cat.

Cool. What are you painting it with? Rattle can?

            Sand it down good.

Use a good urethane primer, at least 2-3 coats.

            Paint desired color

Use a decent rattle can clear coat, either matte or hi gloss. 10 mins between coats and put at least 4-5 coats.

Any runs in clear, use 1200 grit to sand down and add more clear.

I've got rustoleum sandstone texture paint and Krylon marbelizing spray.

Thanks for the tips, next step is sanding and cleaning... Not really looking forward to it but I want it to last also!

I wipe down with rubbing alcohol and let dry then spray away

Got it sanded and wiped down, and got the primer on. Waiting a little while before putting on the first coat of textured spray.

Got 2 more coats of primer after that last picture so hopefully will give me a good bond. We shall see!

Note to self... Spray from farther away then normal spray paint...
One more coat going on before the over spray.

Little mess up here, but covered up very well i think.

The webbing and a coat clear on. Think it turned out well.

Extra points for turning apartment patio into a paint booth!

Msybe not ideal and definetly caused a couple of issues (wind) but overall it worked out! The real test will be getting the clay out and seeing how the edges look.

Couple iffy parts but for the most part it came together pretty well.
