I could be wrong, but I believe an El nino year typically is an indicator for a wetter and cooler fall season for a lot of Texas.

Yes but it doesent usually translate to a colder winter. El Niño patterns generally keep those deep arctic blasts from spilling down the face of the Rockies and instead get shunted east
