So I was looking on the HLSR website when I clicked on security measures and read this: People with concealed handgun licenses, or CHLs, will be cleared by law enforcement personnel at each gate prior to entering the grounds.

http://rodeohouston.com/GuestService...urity-measures

So I guess its ok? I now in the actually Rodeo the answer is no cause its a sporting event but I guess the grounds are ok.

Yep, I thinking that's a poorly worded way of saying no guns. As in, if you have CHL we will pay you down to verify your not carrying.

City owned property so they "shouldnt" be able to enforce a no guns rule for chl holders..
not sure i like being identified and "checked out" as a guy with a legally carried firearm though.... even if i understand the intent..

I have to question their "security scan". Went to the BBQ cook off last night. Going into the check station they had to see my money clip which has a magnet in it. They never questioned the knife in my front pocket.

Highly doubt 51% of sales are alcohol. Also, premise is defined as the physical building that the rodeo is being held. Therefore the grounds of the fair dont count, only the arena during the rodeo.
In past years, I've known plenty of people who would carry to the concerts, and around the grounds, but had to return to the car for rodeo. Shouldnt be any different than the state fair. It's been ruled that we can carry to the fair so how is rodeo any different. If it is state or local government property then, as said before, they can't deny you the right to carry.

If it's anything like the Texas State Fair you can let a cop know your carrying when you come through the gate.

You're correct but what they're discussing is the livestock show portion. Not the actual rodeo. They're 2 separate events.

You are allowed to carry all over the grounds, however, that stops when you try to enter the stadium to see the rodeo.

Here's an email response I got from the questions email link on the rodeo website. Told them I didn't like their wording.. "cleared by officers" as being taken 2 different ways. I'm going on sunday and I'll be packin, but I won't be going into the stadium to the actual rodeo event.

"Anyone wanting to bring a concealed handgun onto the grounds must present themselves to a HPD security officer before they enter the gates and show the officer their CHL license -- and, if requested, their weapon. The license will be checked out to see if it is valid and/or expired. If there is an issue with their license, then they could be turned away from entering the Reliant Park grounds.

Thanks!

Stephanie"

They were wanding tonight. Struck me as a little odd that they had the committee volunteers operating the metal detectors. I guess you don't need much training for that.

Im working it. As the email states you may carry in reliant center, arena and the carnival. NOT in the stadium.

Most of the wanding starts closer to show time and near the carnival.

I'm headed down in the morning for three days while kids are showing. Are they wanding in the exhibitor entry? If they are not wanding, do you have to hunt an officer down just to show your chl?

Wanding is happening to every person entering who is NOT a committee member or their guest. This is ALL entrances. So if you are not a committee member, or their guest you will get the wand no matter what entrance you go in.

Are you saying all entrances to the park in general or just for carnival area and inti the stadium.

I went Sunday morning to see the judging and exhibits in the reliant center and didnt get botgered at all. Carried away and enjoyed the day without question.

Sometimes it's hard to obey the law.

Went to the Alamo. I was gonna leave my gun with security. The security office is in the middle of the Alamo grounds.

Plus a few secret committee entrances, the one Rodeo Operations uses is just a hole in the wall off LaConcha with only a rent-a-cop asleep in their car.
