Default Custom Rifle

Does anyone know if anyone can make a custom rifle that looks like or have a Rem Sendero built. If so start throwing some custom rifle makers in Texas. Also what is usual price for a rifle?

Euless Guns and Ammo specializes in Rem 700 action based customs. Their work is top flight and less expensive than most of the "name" places.

I recently took my childhood 270 to hill country rifle. Basically saving the action. Really excited to see the finished product . They accurized a browning a-bolt 300 wsm for me and it shoots lights out. I never shoot rifles and I killed an ibex at just over 400 yds. They aren't cheap but they are good and they are the guys I know.

easy to build. HS precision stock with a model 700 action and a sendero contour barrel. The price depends on how just how tricked out you want it to be.

first thing, buy this $25 book and read the whole thing. Very informative and will answer all your questions.

http://siskguns.com/index.php/sisk-books.html

what caliber do you want ?

step by step process with ballpark prices

1) buy rifle for donor action, or buy new custom action... $400-1000

2) buy used or new HS Precision stock ... $200-350

3) buy custom barrel in desired contour, caliber, and twist ... $350-475(fluted)
barrel makers: Lilja, Shilen, PacNor, Hart, Bartlein, Krieger, ER Shaw, Douglas, etc...

4) fit, chamber, crown ... $250 ; blueprint factory action ( optional but recommended) $125

5) skim bed barreled action... $100

6) trigger job to existing trigger ... $50 or custom trigger $100-200

7) consult gunsmith to discuss estimated delivery time, prices, location

you can build a custom rifle for $1200 - 2500+ , all depends on what you want and how deep your pockets are

I asked Blake this same question 6 weeks ago and he gave this same answer. No surprise he is right on the mark as always. I am six weeks into building a "sendero style" .25-06 on a rem 700 action All of my parts are in hand. My Zeiss HD5 5x25x50 actually arrived this morning. Just have 10 more weeks to wait on my barrel and then it's off to the GS. I have been have tons of fun with this. Can't wait to do it again and I haven't even shot the rifle. Good luck with your build. Lots of good advice around here

Call Jim Beadland at Beadlandcustomrifles.com he is not in Texas, but right across state line in Oklahoma (no sales tax). He built mine and is a great guy that does great work. He is very well know on snipershide.

Look into Tumbleweeds Custom Rifles in Georgetown or S&S Custom Rifles in Argyle. Both do quality work.

Travis builds a fine rifle. Have one, and 2 more on the way. He's got a build with a budget for any rifle.

Some nice rifles here. Funny, I was just about to create a thread on this. I've been shopping for a 300 win mag for several weeks now. I just cant find anything that I'm completely satisfied with. Thinking about going the custom route. My main concern is my budget was going to stop me from doing this.

x2 for Travis Pollock and Texas Custom Rifles. Travis is a former Marine from my hometown. Guns were always his passion, so he decided to start building custom rifles for people around town, and then his business took off. He does a great job!

When it comes down to it any rifle builder can do that... its up to you to find the knowledge to make it right for the right price...

To the OP. West Texas Ordnance in Ackerly Tx builds all mine and my brothers. Hard to beat the prices and they will shoot just as good as anyone else. They are currently building me a 6.5-284 norma on a stiller action and fixing to get another build going through them.

I just talked to Jon Beanland yesterday (he is about 45 miles from me), and had him put me in line for a rebuild on my Remington 40X that the barrel is shot out in. He is in Oklahoma, but barely. He is a good guy, and really knows his stuff. He is running about 6 months out right now, but then again, for some barrels you will wait nearly that long anyways. I ordered my barrel from Bartlein yesterday as well, and they estimated it would be 4-5 months. I would be leery of anyone who could start next week anyways, most good smiths are backed up at least a few months unless they have a big shop with several people working there.

My advice would be to figure out what kind of rifle you want exactly, then find a smith that does that kind of work, that has a good rep, and talk to him. Most have their specialties, and matching the smith to the build helps a lot. That way you aren't butting heads. Here in Texas I have used Mike Bryant (top notch, but not taking work right now), and Tip Burns down at Canyon Sporting Arms by San Antonio.

Here's a rifle I had built by a local 'smith in Buffalo (Wayne Chapman). It's really just a M700 standard length action with a Shilen #17 heavy varmint contour barrel, in a Remington BDL laminate stock w/factory .920 barrel channel. Stock supposedly came from a run of Sendero specials for either Bass Pro Shops or Gander Mountain.

Anyway, it works well......chambered in .284 Winchester. Got a pronghorn doe at 400yds with it back in October. This is a 2nd round hit at 1000yds in preparation for that hunt.

Point of all this is, you don't have to spend a whole bunch of money for good hunting performance. Although, the custom rigs shown are to drool over...
