Well I wasn’t sure this was actually going to happen this year but I am headed to Colorado!!
In March I made the difficult decision to jump ship from the oilfield and the family business I have run for the last 11 years and do something different. After 15 weeks on Aug 14 I graduated from Northwest lineman college in Denton. Hoping to climb poles so my wife don’t have to. Lol
It’s actually really fun and was awesome to learn so much about the electrical grid and all that good stuff. But that brings us to now. With Covid, and this hurricane, companies are taking even longer to go through the hiring process than they normally would. So i don’t have a job yet. Might as well go elk hunting.
Now to the hunt details. I will be honest the is the most unprepared I have ever been for a hunt. My legs are strong. My lungs are not. [emoji854] I also have no idea where we are hunting? [emoji2369] I was planning on just going and hunting solo but I got invited on a trip that I couldn’t turn down.
I’ll be hunting with my buddy Justin (aka Lake Fork Guy) the born and raised guys and a couple of the Hushin guys, but i don’t know who. Pretty much all I know is we are all meeting up on September 2nd and hunting their spot. So ya!! Super weird for me.
That said I am going to Childress to fill feeders with the grandpa on Saturday and since i have no job it doesn’t make sense to drive back home before heading back to Colorado. I am actually really excited that i get to go scout one of my areas and do lots of fishing on my way up to meet everyone. I even did the old trick that worked on my New Mexico trip in 2017 of booking a room at the Casino the night before we hike in. Good night sleep in a bed, hot shower, gambling. Perfect way to start a elk hunt. So stay tuned and hopefully my fat *** doesn’t die on the mountain [emoji51]
I must throw one more thing in here. I need to publicly apologize to James. We were planning on drawing a LE elk tag this year and I got nervous the day before the deadline and we pulled our applications. I did it because i was worried I would get a job out of school and not be able to hunt and didn’t want to chance James burning 6 points. I did it for the right reason. But just sucks we would have been able to hunt. Sorry buddy I suck lol.
