Not sure if anyone ever intentionally targets these on a fly, but this was NOT what I had intended late yesterday afternoon, but I'll take it.
Total Fight time was just over 40 minutes from the kayak on a 5wt.

Spent some time fishing last week in southern Montana on the Madison River and hiked up to Hidden Lake. I didn’t take many pictures, and my bro-in-law is not into taking pictures, but I did get him to take one of a 17” rainbow caught on a #24 dry fly. I couldn’t get him any closer to the camera.

We fished the Madison “between the lakes” of Hebgen and Quake Lake and got into a hatch like I have never seen of tiny Tricos, size 24/26. I was fishing the slow, shallower segment just before the river spread out and flows into Quake Lake which is 180 ft deep. The trout were rising like crazy, yet I could not buy a fish. My two fishing partners were up river a bit also in the middle of a hatch, and neither of them nor another fisherman near them could catch a single fish in 3 hours of fishing. You talk about frustrating!!! The trout were skittish and picky!
                    Can you see the hatch?

Who knows what kind of fish this is? I actually caught a larger one but released it without taking a picture.

Nice rainbow, Randy. #24?? That's tiny and hard to see. Did you just set the hook every time there was a rise in the general vicinity of your leader? That's what I would have done, I'm sure.

I caught a few on the Green a few years ago.

It was small! The fish took it just as I started to recast.

That is the 3rd one I have caught on the Madison between the lakes. This was the day before the hatch.
