Question Raised bed garden?

Neighbor gave me some of the lumber from the deck he tore down. I told the wife and granddaughter I would build a couple of raised beds for them. My question concerns the dirt. I can get a mix of 60% compost, 20% local sand and 20% loam. Would that work OK? It sounds like a pretty good mix, but I'm not a gardener.

I built my first raised bed garden this spring and I used 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 compost and 1/3 vermiculite (by volume) and I have had great results so far. Can you get the mixed dirt/compost at a reasonable price? If so I would give it a try

Add a little peat moss and it will stay loose and hold water good. As the peat breaks down it will compost in place and add nutrients.

Cotton burr compost is very good. It's also finer texture than some and has lots of beneficial microbes. Don't use over 1/3 mixture as it is really hot.

I can get it for $36 a yard. I think I'm going to try it.
