Is this a good starter camera far taking pictures of my son and daughters sports and a few deer pictures?

My wife's a photographer and what we have found is Canon is a far superior camera. You will be happy with it for sure.

jbarr, I have shot both nikon and canon. Just curious why she would say that.

Limbwalker just our opinion through research and our experience. Nikon make great cameras but what we have found is you get what you pay for. Also it depends on the lense as well. When my wife first started we asked and researched, but it's like vehicles and bows everyone has their favorites.
