I grew up shooting bows and always loved them. Never had a place to try and shoot a deer though. My last year in high school I was given an opportunity. My boss at the time owned a ranch near Sisterdale in the hill country...it was bow hunting only. Borrowed that bow (pretty sure it was an original Beat Whitetail but maybe someone can tell from the pic) and a handful of aluminum arrows tipped with Bear Super Razorheads and climbed up in a tree stand for the 1989 archery only opener. I had my own tab and shot split finger with no sights. This little doe stepped out about 8:30 and I drew back only to have the arrow raise up off the flipper and slam back into the aluminum riser...I had pinched the nock in my excitement! We had a stare down and she eventually went back to feeding about 8-10 yards away. The next time she wasn’t so lucky as I drew back, picked my spot and let an arrow fly. The shot was true and she ran about 30 yards, dropped and did the death kicks. I was in utter shock! Anyway, there is more to the story but that is the main gist...still love it every bit as much as I did that morning. Can’t wait for October!
