The junk at the last couple I stopped in was priced higher or at new price.

I understood it to be a date code. Which made way more sense to me as price could vary so widely and down to pennies and even then it seemed like it varried between stores. I tried to decipher it one time and figured it was more trouble than it was worth. If it is not worth whatever $ to me (which is more than I'm gonna offer) then I wasnt going to buy it anyway

The Ace Cash pawn or whatever one has the green signs has the "dates" with less prices. SOmetime you can look on there and get them to come down to the next cheaper price.

Just make them an offer. The listed price is not necessarily what they will sell it for.

I like the mom and pop pawn shops too but the cash America chain has decent prices to start with and they will come off the price for a cash sale.

The price listed is what they want not what they are willing to take

I've seen the same thing at local pawn shops also. I was calling around to find a local FFL to get a lower shipped to. Found out J&J Pawn in Beaumont charges $50.

The best pawn shops are non corporate owned around military bases and casinos.

I absolutely despise haggling, so I seldom go into pawn shops because I know they expect you to haggle on price.

Dont sit in the parking lot and give offers to people as they are walking in to hock their goods. They dont like that. Used to be a hobby of mine in odessa if I had a day off.

See something you like, tell them "ill give you $5 more than the pawn shops cash offer"

Also works very well at the scrap yard on Fridays. You would be amazed at what people will try to scrap for beer money. Best I ever did was a set of aluminum wheel spacers for $5, sold them on craigslist an hour later for $150

                              This is exactly right.

It also killed the gun shows that were once a great place to buy and trade with individuals.

I have bought several guns at pawn shops over the years. Cash America has been decent. A month ago my son bought a Winchester 12g semiauto for $100 out the door. Brought it home, cleaned it up, and it ran great. These deals can't be had every day. Just have to be there at the right time....
