My main purpose for this tripod is birding. By the time I add my gimbal head it will be fine. One thing I have learned, you never have the level of the subject covered. In flight happens quickly so if I have to bend over for a few seconds I'm good. Many times I'm sitting if in a fixed location anyway.
I have other tripod for portrait shooting, landscapes, etc. When I go out to shoot birds, that's all I'm doing.

I have a Tamron 150-600 that I use as my wildlife lens, therefore the tripod would have to be able to hold some weight. I also tinker with night time photography(but I suck at it), so I'd use the tripod for that as well. I have a cheapo tripod that I got as a gift a few years ago and it works ok, but I need something stronger that will hold my camera more secure. I'm hoping not to spend more than $200, but from my research I won't be able to get much of a tripod for that price. Thanks again for the current replies.

Mindy and I went with...
Benro FTA18CC Travel Angel Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod
Benro GH2 Aluminum Gimbal Head
And for when we're not using the long lenses, the Benro IN1 Double Action Ball Head
I've only used the tripod/gimbal combination for one road trip so far. But I like it very much. I haven't tried the ball head yet, but from just fiddling with it out of the box, I think it will serve our needs well.
