    Why would geese do this???

Wife called me out into the yard earlier to watch some geese way up high. We could hear that they are geese, but they were in dismay and confused going around in circles. What’s the deal? Just curious.....

This I bet...geese can circle sometime when dropping from the stratosphere, but bet it is cranes. Amazing how loud they can be when they are so far away.

They will do that sometimes when they are getting their bearings.

According to waterfowl researchers, occasionally the practical joker in the group will be leading the flock and start flying in circles just to mess with the squad cause they follow along blindly. Eventually one of them catches on when they fly over the same farmhouse 5 times. “Dude! we are due in Mexico next week - quit effing around and fly straight!”

An airplane way above them will mess with them pretty bad

In 20 years of duck hunting they have never done this over my spread[emoji21]. Fog and a lonely lost goose is the only thing we have ever shot at.

For the record I have mainly hunted big open water and haven’t hunted too many rice fields.

This time of year in Shiner you might have been looking at buzzards.

Sounds more like pelicans to me. Pelicans do this all the time when migrating. Geese should all be long gone by now.
