I think it could be argued also that shots lower in the body cavity result in better blood trails. ie limited pooling of blood in the bottom of the cavity.

But this is a great reference point that’s easy to teach to new hunters.

Agree, especially when hunting from ground level. I have seen a couple of friends lose a deer that were shot through the lungs with a pass through but did not leave much of a blood trail.
