Donít overlook the Remington 700 5R Gen 2 in 260 Remington. I have 4 of the 5R rifles and they are all shooters.

I have built 2 ARS and it was quite simple with instructions. I’m thinking about going with a 6.5 Creedmoor because it will be used for deer\hogs and I don’t enjoy shooting my 30-06. So looking for a good round that I will enjoy shooting. Any other opinions would be appreciated.
Snipershide

Dont overlook the 7mm08

I built one a few years back and I love it. Tack driver.
Brand new Remmy 700 action, HS Precision stock, Vortex scope, a good trigger, I used a standard stock barrel thinking I would buy a custom barrel, but this one shoots so good I kept it. Custom strap being made by a TBHer and she will be complete

With custom loads there is no kick at all. Is loud as all get out but no kick. I will say the 7 mag is also very heavy which takes some of the recoil.

Heavy 7 mag with a break loaded to 7-08 velocity.

No recoil makes sense

Whatís the point in having a 7 Mag if youíre gonna do that.

Can you even safely load it that low?

Sendero is still about $800 cheaper.

He stated you could get it for the same price.

Have built savages and Remington's. Use remage barrels and nuts for rem 700 actions. Buy either action and its the same process. Screw barrel into action, head space, tighten nut. Tools needed are vice, nut wrench, go/nogo gauges.
I buy barrels from criterion directly and sometimes off eBay.
Watch utube videos for "how to" process.
I buy after market triggers. I buy most stocks(he precision) from eBay and gun forums(like this one).
All rifles I've assembled for my own use have shot 1" or less 3 shot groups.
The savage is the most flexible as you can change out bolt heads and followers if you later decide to rebarrel to a different caliber(ex.223 to 308). You have to change out complete bolts for Remington's.
In summary...its not hard to do but you will end up spending $750-$800 for all the tools and components for your first build.
Fyi..U can buy custom built barrels on eBay. Do a search on "remage barrel". The Wilson barrels I've have had built are excellent. Best priced remage nuts are sold by pacific tool and gauge.
Bolt actions are a lot easier to build that ARs.
