Yea, some of the deer on this particular place get some pretty hefty looking bodies on them, but stall out in the rack department for some reason. I've got a couple that are giant bodied deer, but little headgear and have been that way for multiple years.

This guy has been the same the last 4 years. He shows up in November and leaves early December. He's actually lost a touch this year.

Seems that way on our ranch. We will be pushing minerals and protein in the coming years to try to remedy that. However a mature buck is a trophy regardless of the score.

True. That kind of thing has caused me to come home with tag soup on a few trips.

Ok let me come shoot the ones you do not want to shoot. It has been hard hunting this year. Go get one of those big ones though. Good luck.

Just had a shooter roll in a bit ago following a doe. Closest they got was about 30 yards. First time I'd seen hide nor hair of that buck all year. Kinda disappointed me a bit as he didn't do anything but put on weight! Had my wife had on him a couple times last year but she never could get a clear shot.

I understand sir. I've missed a few sets posting mainly because I forget about it and get side tracked with the hunt itself.

I hear ya! And thanks a bunch Todd! One reason I ain't doing the live hunt thing is I would have to take pics on my phone, email em to my home computer, then I could post them on my live thread. Between having to do pics that way, plus the write up, I would be up till 11:00 pm, and have to get up at 4:15 am the next morn! And i hunt purty much every day, so it gets purty tough to keep up with. I just ain't smart enough to do it another way. Bout all I've done is kill a couple of pigs that jacked up my deer huntin so far this year! Sorry bout the "semi-hijack" Shiloh, you may resume! Enjoying it a lot!! Good Huntin, and God Bless, Rusty

Well, the beginning of my 30th year on this earth has been a doozy. My lil man woke up last night screaming at the top of his lungs for over 30 minutes a little before 1 and didn't go back to sleep until 2. Honestly one of the worst nights we've had since we brought him home from the hospital. I woke up late to hit the woods by about 30 minutes and on the way got stuck at the train tracks while the train literally set there at a dead standstill. Finally arrive to the hunting grounds, get all my camo on and gear gathered and just as I shut the door realize I left my keys laying in the front seat and I'd already locked the door......the place I'm hunting is conveniently located about 45 miles away from my house and my wife works another 30 miles in the opposite direction of that, so it's been an interesting day to say the least.

In saying all that, things could be a lot worse. I'm not at work, I've got the wind in my face (with the way the days started I KNOW that will change), I'm about 18ft closer to the good Lord above than I was when I woke up this morning and I'm sitting on the only piece of ground on earth that I'd like to be on right now waiting for an ol monarch buck to come sneaking by in bow range.

Not too bad of a morning on stand. 5 deer, all of which were bucks, and two potential shooters just couldn't get a shot. Wind is working on shifting now and supposed to be out of the west this evening so I'm changing zip codes and headed to my other place.

Truck keys are on their way now so hopefully everything is on the up an ups from here on out!

Well, I can say that it was a first for me in 30 years. I usually have a spare but took it out a while back when my truck was in the shop and never put it back in. Go figure!!

Well I changed zip codes and am currently about 50 miles away from where I started this morning, Back where I was chasing the big Heavy bodied buck. Pulled camera card and he was here yesterday evening so hopefully he'll show his face again tonight.

Be back at the other place in the morning. Was in the wrong spot this morning as my main buck of interest showed up this morning at another spot I'd just started checking. It's actually the spot I shot him at last year and lost him so I guess he must have forgot about it maybe!
Wind is supposed to be good for it the next couple days so we shall give it a whirl.

Signal was crappy at the morning spot. Seen 9 does, 5 bucks and some chasing activity I couldn't get glasses on to see what it was for sure.

About 9:30 had a single doe come in and didn't have a boyfriend with her...

She was quartered away a touch which I like and just as I let the string slip out of my fingers she turned to me causing a quartering shot to be broadside. Arrow zipped thru and she took off in a fast paced walk away from me. I have her a while knowing it was back and finally took up the trail. Blood wasn't too bad but not great and all the leaves raining down weren't helping. I'd heard something a bit after I shot crossing the creek down from me and her trail was leading in that direction....

And walllah! This was a first for me to have a critter die in the water, and of course she had to do it in the opposite bank. A little redneck engineering with some logs and I was across and had her taken care of! The only reason I shot her was my uncle was wanting a deer and was going to be down tomorrow. After finding her, I was beginning to wonder if he was worth that much work or not!

Back in the stand at another location hoping to let my luck keep riding on!

Way to go Shiloh! Good job on the slick. You aint gotta make no excuses round here as to
"why" you shot this, or shot that! If I hadn't had so much trouble with the pigs/dinker bucks running off my "in range" does, I would have at least shot at a couple, I can promise ya that! Good Huntin, and God Bless, Rusty

Thanks everyone. I'm back in the same stand I shot the doe from yesterday this morning hoping for a crack at my wide buck. Pulled my camera card when I got here an checked it a bit ago to find that he'd been thru a few times yesterday evening.
Low and behold I looked back behind me and there the ghost that's haunted me for the last 369 days was across a creek working his way down it without a care in the world. He got parallel to me and stopped to look my way and I figured it was fixing to happen as he was right next to the main crossing. Instead, he turned and headed on down the trail.

I've been very blessed to have the opportunity to shoot some amazing critters and a few big deer, but that buck was honestly the prettiest buck over ever laid eyes on in the woods. I tried snapping some pics thru my binos but there was just too much brush and he was moving. I will be back here tonight!

Thanks. I'm gonna keep after him as long as I've got the right wind and time off?
Oooohhh the new bow.... I really do need to get too shooting that thing badly. With what little free time I have had the last few weeks between family, work, and hunting, I've only shot my hunting rig a few times to keep the muscles loose and my mind intact on it's sight picture. I'm afraid if I draw that other bow out it will all go down hill with my narrow mind!!

Back in the stand now hoping for a dream to become a reality. I killed my buck last year on November 11, so hopefully today is my lucky hunting day!

No luck this evening. Seen a bunch of does, honestly, the most I believe I've ever seen in one set at this place. Right at last light, I thought my buck was headed in, but ended up being a young 10. It was getting late and I didn't want to spook him by getting out so just set and waited. Setting there, I heard a the leaves rustling and looked below me and spotted a bobcat. He walked right up to the buck and raised his back up as though he was hissing at him! The buck just pinned his ears and lowered his head and the cat took off with the buck following!
That was definitely a first for me!

My wind is good till about 9 in the morning before it starts switching so hopefully I can get a crack at him. If not, it'll be a waiting game till Monday.

I understand sir. I'm fortunate this year to have several mature bucks on cam and can swamp around to different spots, but the two I've been chasing are have got under my skin and it's tough to shy away from there core areas and not hunt them. Just gotta be sure everything is right!!

Not much luck this morning, seen very few deer and very little movement all the way around. Other guys hunting today didn't see anything either. Hoping with the wind shifts and this little front moving in it will have them on there feet this evening.

Back in the stand for one last go of it. Have to go back to work tomorrow unfortunately so this is for all the marbles!! Supposed to be cloudy and overcast all day with a slight chance of some precipitation so plan on being in the stand nearly all day aside from maybe a quick lunch break.

Been slow so far, but did see a shooter chasing a doe a lil ways out earlier. It's that time of year when one can run a doe by at anytime so hopefully I'll get lucky.

Slow morning has transferred to a slower evening so far. Really hoping for some luck now. Less then 2 hours to go.

Well, the evening ended only seeing a couple does. Rifle season opens here this weekend and I'll most likely be tagging along with the wife trying to put her on a buck. Will keep y'all posted

On the eve of the eve of the Oklahoma rifle season opener, I've been running around the house like a madman scrambling to gather everything up to head east after work to my father in laws yearly deer camp to be the head cook, deer skinner, and guide/support for my wife. Last year she killed her best buck ever with me sitting right next to her and it was pretty awesome and hopefully she can do it again.
I honestly had no intentions of hunting until midweek just before thanksgiving when I head out for a rifle hunt I drew out for, but I got a kink in my plans.

^^^^^^^Here's the kink^^^^^

I've got a pretty good little resident herd of does and a half dozen or so bucks that frequent my place right here at my house. We have 27 acres with the land being 95% open CRP type grass with one small strip of trees that run across it. I planted a small food plot last year for the deer and increased it in size by about 5 times (prolly have 2-3 acres total planted) and have had lots more activity showing up this season, just nothing to write home about until this week. I'd heard there was a decent buck in the area but my sources weren't the greatest. Low and behold, this fella pops up on cam a few nights ago and has become a new resident the last several nights and mornings. I threw up a blind a couple nights ago and it didn't slow any of the deer down at all, including the new guy. My wife tried for him this evening but he didn't show, and with rifle season coming in and knowing the neighbors are after him, I texted the boss man and told him I was going to be a bit late for work in the morning because I had a deer to kill! He's been out in shooting light the last two mornings so hopefully all fingers and toes crossed, tomorrow morning will make it 3 in a row and I can get an arrow stuck in him!
I was really really hoping my wife could get on him, but she told me I needed to try and get him before rifle if possible since we weren't going to be here the next few days. We shall see how it goes!
