I haven't been notified yet, but here's hoping there's a letter in the mail. I got drawn the first few years I put in, but last year was the first that I didn't get drawn. Good luck, guys!

I haven't been notified yet either. Is there anywhere you can check online or call up there? Or is that frowned upon by the staff?

I did my daily hike out there today (5.3 miles total). And found someone's game-cart with a ladder stand on it. And a game cam in a security box cabled to the tree over looking both the cart and some corn 5 yards away.

Hey. We were drawn for Nov 1 - 15. Any advise on where to hunt? It's my first time to be drawn out there.

Thanks for being so quick, Larry.

It looks like I haven't been a member long enough or had enough post counts to get any PMs. Any idea how to accelerate this?

You could become a supporting member to accelerate full forum privileges.

In this particular case I'm thinking you should give your sarcasm meter a whack. I think it should be buzzing right now.

Ding ding ding!

I was yanking your chain a little, Wikid. Guys work hard for years to find their areas. They almost never give up the goods on a public forum, and they would never do so for someone who asked for it on their very first post.

As for Benbrook...you entered the drawing and got drawn with no prior knowledge of the area? Your best bet is to use this season as a learning experience. Might be hard to scout this late in the game without bumping into hunters and messing up their hunts. It's a risk you really have no choice but to take. Just gotta get out there and check it out for yourself.

That place is loaded for dove the first two weeks of the season. But you got to know where to go. And how to hunt it.

It's also the first public lands I ever hunted, back in the early 1980s.

Edit: I take that back. Grapevine back in 1977.

I just finished my first two weeks of Benbrook. Never been there before and had a great time. Saw a few deer, but did not get any. Sunday is my official last day, but other duty calls me for the weekend. It has been very hot though. I met a few people there who were really nice and gave me some great tips. I am hooked on public hunting so far.

Hello guys, i have the 2 weeks that starts tomorrow. Hope the first couple of weeks were good. Talked to a guy today that shot a doe last week! But with it being hot and working off of a full moon i know it was tough out there.

It was a tough first 2 weeks, wicked hot and lots of hunters. More pressure on the deer than I've seen out there in the past 5 years combined. I was successful and thank the Lord Jesus for the opportunity to hunt regular season instead of doe and spike only like the past 3 years.

I hope I get drawn this year. I love rabbit hunting that place. The deer hunters don't like it, but it is public.

Nope. I'll be out there this evening. What time did you hit the woods? If I hunt the mornings, I try to be in the stand about an hour before light.

How many squirrels are you seeing? Is it worth bringing a first time squirrel hunter? If I get drawn I may hunt squirrels too.

Squirrels are too easy to hunt. A good oak or pecan tree you could shoot all day. Beautiful morning this morning! Just need movement about 25 yards out!

Well im back out here this morning but dont think im going to see anything with all the commotion yesterday. Plus just had 4 people come through on the horse trail. 2 were out here yesterday afternoon. Think im going to put corn out and let my spot rest for a few days. Its nice weather so people will be out riding horses all weekend im sure...unless the rain comes.

Don't beat urself up too bad, brother. It happens to the best of us.

Back in the blind. Been here since around 2. Nothing to far except squirrels and some cool looking woodpeckers. Should be a good night. Perfect wind. Not too hot.

Had a very nice 8 point with a kicker come in twice. Second time had a spike behind him. Thought long and hard on if I should shoot or not. Decided to shoot. Mouth grunted (first time ever grunting) and guessing it was a little too loud so he ducked and shot over his back. Another hunter end up killing him after me.

Had two died working in, but after they saw my lighted nock, they wouldn't come in. Good sit overall.
