Good for you. So you are able to hunt on or off the LBJ, and quickly.

Nice set up.

Hunted Sunday AM. Heard what sounded like deer chasing each other but too early to see anything. Was very close but no grunts, etc...could’ve been yotes for all I know.
Only saw this little guy later and on who emerged from downwind. Nosejammer works!

Never did post it, but I passed this young guy due to AR’s in late October. He broke his main beam off just past the G2 on the right side. Stayed in range for 20+ minutes.
I only sat the one sit out there before I got distracted with a big boy on private land elsewhere.

I found 3 does last Friday.
Let me know if you want someone to tag along. I tried my muzzleloader last week, but really want to stick with a bow.

Hunted yesterday AM. Did not see anything. Heard what sounded like 4 legged critter walking nearby but too early...that's 2 mornings in a row where there has been movement prior to daylight. I mean, I know it happens regularly, but I just wonder if its due to increased hunting pressure.

That’s about the only consistent way on public, regardless of time of year. Those old bucks have it figured out quick.

I'd say tall crp is good for bedding, regardless what it's interspersed with.

I find that they like some form of structure or transition in the CRP type stuff. A fallen cedar tree, small patch of brush, small patch of saplings... bucks will typically bed with their backs to the cover, wind at their back, looking downwind.

Does bed more based on eyesight, since they typically have multiple deer bedding together. Bucks typically bed alone when hard antlered, so they set up with everything in their favor.

FYI, just saw this on FB LBJ Grasslands Hunters Group:

Hi everyone. I appreciate being added to the group.

I wanted to let everyone know that Trinity River Beagle club will be running an AKC Licensed Field Trial this weekend. The club has a permit for four pastures, but we plan to focus on pastures 49 and 71.

We anticipate around 60 dogs entered from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, and Arkansas over Saturday and Sunday. We worked to avoid November and wanted to give you guys a heads up. We invite y’all to come out and watch the trial. We should be out in the field by 8:30 each morning.

Thank you.

Man, that is just plain W-R-O-N-G!

Not to mention, scary! 20 empty cans, what looks like an empty MD 20/20, and 1 empty water bottle. Roaming the hunting woods, presumably in search of game, and with a weapon.

And, they had the tree prepped with 2 screw in steps and trusting limbs for everything else.....

It was warm today, and the snakes were out. Ran across a small rat snake and a western ribbon snake. (About 10 feet from each other) Nothing venomous, fortunately.

Anybody else hunt this AM? Wind was howling myself and two others saw squat in the daylight. Jumped one out of bed in crp in the dark. Cold and windy! Tomorrow should be better for those heading out.

On the TPWD website Outdoor Annual it references a "Special Late Season" that says you can shoot antlerless and spike. I know the antlerless does not apply to LBJ but and wondering about the spike. Does anyone know for sure? I tried calling the main office but the guy I spoke with was unsure. He went online and viewed what I did but said he had never heard of it and couldn't say for sure.
