Great morning to be in the woods. I’ve heard a few rifle shots and the duck hunters are blasting away!! A pic of the view from my setup.

Nothing shot this morning. But on a positive note, I'm about to go get my granddaughter then head over to my mom's and drown my sorrows in turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes baked ham and pecan pie. And various other bad foods!! Happy Thanksgiving y'all!!

Well we had a great Thanksgiving but we were up late visiting with family so we didn't hunt this morning. I have an extra job tonight from 3 pm to 11 pm so I probably won't hunt again until tomorrow evening. But Faith is coming today, I have another week off in December and have another buck tag I can use in the NF the next county over. Starting to get excited about it again. I may not see much there either but at least it'll be something different.

I got a good Black Friday deal on a new tree climber too. About the best way to hunt the public land around here. I'll post some pics of Faith.

In the tree with Faith. It’s a little warm but the breeze is perfect and the view is good.

My son is a few hundred yards away in my pop up. This is the last weekend to shoot does here so it’d be great if one of us could seal the deal this afternoon. This is the slowest season I remember in a long time. Lots of pics and lots of deer sign, we’re just not seeing much in person.

I'll be heading out with Faith again here shortly. I was planning to hunt in the NF this weekend since I've used my buck tag here at the lease, but my son wants to hunt so we're going to go ahead and hunt our place. He hasn't used his buck tag so I'm trying to help him get on one. I can still shoot a spike and I've had a couple on camera, and of course I can shoot pigs. At mid day we're going to scout a little in the NF for next weekend. Next Friday I'll start another week of vacation!!

Hear some pigs off to the east. Somebody on our place just shot too. It’s a little colder than I thought it was gonna be. I think I may be stuck to the metal seat on this ladder stand.

I had to call it a morning!! A little under dressed. About to warm back up and drink some coffee then head out to the NF for a little mid day scouting. This evening I'm gonna take my new tree climber for a little test run hunt at the lease. No more deer than I've been seeing I think I've made my last morning hunt of the season. I'm about to turn into a fair weather evening hunter for the rest of this season!!

Ha!! I wish I had more to tell. There was a really good deer killed this evening by another hunter, and I got distracted listening to the story and looking at his deer. That's it for me until next weekend, unless I can slip off tomorrow afternoon.

I've been kicking around some different places to go next week while I'm off, and I think I've settled on Twin Buttes WMA in San Angelo if the weather holds out like predicted and nothing comes up. They have 2 units that are walk in bow only units, and you can kill a buck and a doe and turkeys. Talked to a few folks here on TBH that have given me some pretty good info, so we'll see.

Looks like my son and I will be headed to Twin Buttes tomorrow. We'll hunt tomorrow afternoon, all day Tuesday, Wednesday morning and then head home. Weather is looking good but will be cold...so we backed out of camping in a tent and rented a cabin at a nearby marina. I'm too old for tents lol. Maybe the deer will cooperate!!

I actually did get some really good info. Turns out lots of other TBH'ers either hunt or have hunted there. It sounds pretty good. I don't know how I haven't heard of it until this year. I'm looking forward to it!!

Well we got here and got settled in at the cabin, had lunch and went and got a couple spots set up. We’re about 500 yards or so in, and found some decent sign. There’s a ton of deer in the park, and they’ll come right up to you if you throw them some corn.

Nothing but a fox this evening. There’s a lot of deer sign in this place. Gonna be cold in the morning so hopefully that will have them up and moving.

We’re gonna stay with it as long as we can today. My only problem is I get cold no matter how many layers I wear lol!! There isn’t bathrooms in these cabins but there’s a bathroom/shower house about 75 yards away. I bet there’s probably 30 deer bedded between the cabin and the showerhouse. I walked by then headed there and back within 10 yards and they never moved. It’s crazy how smart deer are. They know exactly where they’re safe and where there’s danger.
