You want to see the pictures of a shot out bore?

I have a Weatherby Vanguard 257 that I have shot out. I knew it went bad cause the groups turned into patterns. I have a borescope and took a few pics of the throat and rifling. About an inch of rifling is gone in front of the throat and the rest of it looks good. She done at 1054 rounds.

Seems like a pretty low count for a barrel to be totally shot out...

Rifling about an inch in front of the chamber. Then it smooths out.

Hot magnums will do that. Fun while it lasted ?

That's pretty cool. I wonder if they'd re-barrel it for you?

Can you look at any rifle with one of those gadgets and see how much life she has left?

I have an old .264 Mag, which everyone tells you is a "barrel burner", if like to know how much wear it shows.

Its really the throat area and the first inch of rifling, The rest of the bore looks good. I used to have a 300 Win mag that was much worse, but it still shot good.

Yes, you can look down anything but a 17 caliber. I dont know if they would rebarrel it. Thought about asking Weatherby.

If your 264 still shoots good, dont look in the barrel.

                      That should buff out.

My friend Terry Cross (of KMW Rifles fame) says that you have to think of barrels like you do tires on your vehicle. They do wear out and have to be replaced sooner or later, and that will depend to some extent on how they are driven.

I have a low # Kimber .22 Hornet that has the throat eroded like that. I bought it new and have no clue how many rounds we have put through it other than "lots". Still shoots good though. Anybody can shoot out a .264 Mag barrel but it takes determination to shoot out a hornet barrel. lol

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but has anyone here actually "shot out" a .264 Mag? And how many rounds did it take? Details?
