There's private land just east of comp #6 that has a game fence that borders the WMA that I've seen some beasts roaming through the years. He doesn't fence his entire place with game proof but just certain areas where he borders other properties. I've always liked Gus WMA. The food alone looks so good that will make the trip. Good deer on that place. Best of luck!

FYI I believe you can do it with just the $12 LPU permit, I've done this before when going out to RC WMA just down the road, you can buy the permit at right there at oak cove marina.

Warfarin?, thought the state did not OK it?

Yea, I thought that's why they don't allow hog hunting in the spring there anymore.

Really?!, thats the first I heard that but would make sense whey they dropped the spring shotgun hog hunting, they still do it over at Richland creek. Maybe A&M is using GE as the test area...

This morning was great.

Overall for our group, saw 2 shooters, 3-4 young bucks, multiple does, and 1 coyote thats no longer alive.

They dropped the spring hunts to let the turkeys have some peace and quiet

At least that is my understanding

Had some great years hunting there years ago. Some great times with friends and great food were consumed at that camp. Killed deer there too, just not the monstrs that roam those woods.

All the times I've been to Gus seems like there ends up being only around 10 deer taken for the hunt but alot more hogs. Usually about 60 hunters but these were rifle hunts and the archery hunts always have a lower success rate. Remember one time few years ago the entire field zeroed not a single deer taken... but I heard there were some misses.

Whats with the flagging hanging off the trees? I saw that all over the place when I was there. And it wasn't marking trails or anything.
