Default Twin Buttes Clean-up

Thanks to all who participated in the clean-up: Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Ducks Unlimited, Concho Bass Club, West Texas Boys Ranch, the Off Road Coalition, Dudes & Divas Kayak group, HEB, FedEx employees, the Game Wardens of Region 1, District 2, our admin clerk Phillip, and anyone else I may have missed. Truly appreciate everyone showing up on a cold, drizzly day and making a huge impact; we stuffed three 20 yard containers full of trash!

I'm planning on it - it'll be my first time there. I've read thru the post on here regarding TB and it has some pretty good tips - you might want to check it out. Have any of you ever camp out there - was thinking of doing it while turkey hunting - thanks

Wow, I've spent the last week reading through all 2,654 posts of this thread. I want to thank everyone for all of the great advice and information on hunting twin buttes. It is refreshing to see people so open and helpful about sharing their knowledge with others on a public land hunting location. I hope to make it out to twin buttes for a couple of hunts this fall. I'll probably be there in early October and again in early December. Maybe I'll see some of you then, and I promise that I'll do my best to respect existing set-ups and equipment. It is the least I can do after receiving such great intel in this thread. Thanks again and happy hunting!

First pic was what it looked like beginning last October. Bottom is now. Lake was at 3.5% of capacity then and went to about 45% in one week in Oct. It is now at 72%. Not much land left to hunt.

This gate is a road we went in last October to a spot to hunt and you couldnít even see water from there. This pic was last week my son took.

1993 was last time it was at this level and itís still going up slowly. Been up about a foot a month last 6 months but that should slow now itís summer. Cool website to track almost every lake in Texas is waterdatafortexas.org. You can see current and historical data.

JD the farmer from Illinois you gave info to last year wanted to kill that cow so bad lol.
He was like, this is public land, that is a public cow!
--you saved him a ticket, i bet.

He said he saw some kind of Ram also?
Lastly he saw a few deer -- said he could of shot a few but did not want to deal with it with his rented car lol.

Is the water still high out there?

Hahahaha.... those cows are 10 times better eating than those dam olí deer any day of the week... money better sent just going to HEB and getting a dry age steak...
still high bro... itís higher than Giraffe pus_sy.... itís stupid full right now limited area to hunt now... gonna be a packed property this season and probably next.
Back in the day there was some sheep running around Iím sure thereís a few still running around that maybe have dinker horns nothing like a 40Ē Dall or Corsican....
gonna be an interesting rut and rattling season...

where are you at these days??

Saw 3 shooters 4 days ago cross the road from the cotton field to the south of Knickerbocker road about a mile past the EQ channel entrance. One was probably 140-150, really nice deer.

Need to find a pop up blind and a hunt chair from last year. Maybe they'll want to buy the carry bag they left behind.

If someone sends them a location they will take care of it. Itís a lot of land for a few wardens to patrol.

Unfortunately that weed will probably be as bad but just brown come winter. Only negative to spring rains.

Hey all,

Newish to the area and have been scouting around the area for a place to hunt. Is there anywhere you guys recommend looking in the Buttes or any particular place to avoid?

I've run into a few blinds while looking around and I don't want to be "that guy" and bump any deer away from any of you because I don't know the area. I'd rather be garholed than screw anything up for y'all. Thanks in advance!

ETA: If you'd rather not put something out in the open feel free to PM me

Well, me and my wife will be making our first trip out there in a couple months. We will be trying to connect on a gobbler for her, and I'll take anything thats in season haha. How's the water level currently? At pool or at conservation, or somewhere in between?
