I just finished this pit for the bed of a truck. The guy liked alligators so I figured out how to incorporate one. I made a door on the end that latches at different places along the teeth or stops on the nose to hold it open. The tail wraps around and makes a small spot to hold a bag of charcoal. His truck is a flatbed so it's handy to have the containment.
I hinged the door down to allow for a spot to season meat and such, but not be have a permanent rack sticking out in the way.
The pit is a piece of 16" diameter pipe and 22" long. The gator was about 4' before I bent it.
