    WARNING: Computer Hackers & Defense!

Ok folks, you may laugh but here it is:

Yep, I'm on FB, only way to always get an idea where and what our 6 kids and grandkids are up to so here it is....

As an ex-LEO, I always read articles on The BLUE to support my Brothers & Sisters. About 30 minutes ago I clicked on a post regarding a Southeast State Trooper accused of misconduct...AND, of course these days it was a "groping" incident on a traffic stop.

As SOON as I clicked on the story, several "pop up windows" appeared on my main screen advising I had a "virus" and to call their SPECIALISTS/HACKERS so they could remove it.

This is what I did, from advice of a friend who "cleans up" computers for a living:

*Do NOT try to "x" out each window in your main frame screen!!!
*ALWAYS "close or x" out from the BOTTOM of your screen (tool bar.) He says if you X out from the X provided on your main screen, BAM...if it's malicious, they got ya'!
*It was also recommended to me that if this happens, power down, reboot then run a manual scan just to be sure.

I just did the manual scan from a TOP of the line "malicious, anti-viral" system my company provided while I was employed and is still in effect. Results were nothing detected and no effect on computer performance as well.

Just trying to help as I know we probably have several computer folks who already know this...but, it can cost you $$ to clean it up.

By the way....my system has alerted me several times and would NOT open a few "links" from posts on the GS as well.

    Be aware....Kuma

          LOL

Good information you shared. I've only had it happen once on my phone. Quickly closed all apps etc and no issues. It was back 2-3 months ago when all the police videos were going around in the lip sync battle. Clicked on one and pop up after pop up warning warning warning virus detected crap and the phone went crazy.

Good advice to close from bottom and not hit X in corner. I've noticed lotsa ads lately that pop up and when I hit the corner X it takes me to their site instead of closing. Is there a way to avoid the "you've won a $10,000 gift card to Walmart ads that lock up the phone? Those really p... Me off

I just hold the power button down to do a hard shutdown. Wait a few minutes and start back up.
