I hope everyone has a very successful hunting year in 2017!

It ain't much but it is 2017 and I killed it with a trad bow so I guess it qualifies. Thumped him at 13 yards. First live critter I've shot at since last Spring - glad to know I can still do it

Why is it a "harvest" log vs a "kill" log?

Because Bisch starts these threads and that is the title he chooses. Kill vs Harvest is a discussion best left for another thread.

Because that has been the title of this yearly thread since before I started doing them every Jan 1st a few years ago. It does not really matter which way it reads, as long as we have it to enjoy all year. And if we want to get picky, it's a thread, not a log!!!

Congrats on the tree rat, John!

Well I was hoping to put a better pic here but with her frozen solid that's not happening. This is my first big game animal with traditional bows. I didn't make a perfect shot. She was quartering harder than I thought and though I hit her back the arrow got center liver and one lung. Man I hope I shoot better on game in the future. In a 10' tripod and with the leaves gone I can't believe I wasn't standing out like a sore thumb. 13 yard shot. 175 yard recovery. 175 grain GrizzlyStik Masai head. Pass through with arrow hanging out as she ran off, found it about 60 yards away. Lots of work left to do on getting this right. They say better lucky than good and this time I was very fortunate.

It's nice when you make a perfect shot, but this ain't ice skating - there's no style points! You flung an arrow and now there is a dead deer on the tailgate - that is what counts!
Congratulations Gary!

Congrats sir!
My first trad deer was taken with the same shot as you described, except she got up after bedding right behind me for a while and I had to shoot again at 40 yards.
Glad it all came together for ya!
