Anyone hand loading for their 6.5 RAP? Picked up some 143 eld x to try. Is h 4350 the go to powder of choice?

H4350 is a favorite of the 6.5 CM shooters but it is still very hard to find. I've had good luck with IMR4350 and Superformance on hornady SST and Amax. In the process of working up a load for the 143ELD-x now using IMR4350 m

I'm a big fan of TPS. Their picatinny rails are on part with Nightforce and Badger imo, recoil lug milled in the front contact area and all. Great product for significantly less money. The rings are top notch as well, love the no cant design.

Went to the range to pick mine up today. Mounted rings, scope, and brake there. Ran a brush through the bore with some hoppes while I mounted everything. Patched it out, mounted the Crux and went to sight in with the vortex 2.5-10 PST mil/mil on top. Found some Hornady 129g interlock on sale last week while waiting for the transfer.

After a few shots and a few cleanings I ended up firing 3 final rounds with all three about touching off a crappy rest. This is with factory ammo and not touching the trigger pull weight yet. Already have some 143 eld x to load up.

I'm impressed.

Yes they did. So the question is:

This:

Plus this:

And Hornady brass. Going to load up a ladder. What's a good starting charge weight?

Thanks

I started at 39.5 grains of IMR 4350 and had my best group (.21") at 41.5 grains but my O.A.L. was 2.835 and I had some feed issues from the magazine. 41.5 grains gave me 2581 fps.

I've restarted with a O.A.L. of 2.8" and trying Superformance because I had some pretty tight groups with the Superformance and 140 grain SST's.

I can't stop experimenting!

Hornady shows their max with imr 4350 at 42g. I usually load a bit past manufacturers max that was at 2.8". I'll start at 40.5g and work up to 42.3 or so using 2.8" oal.

Best I could do today. Foulers and scope adjustments lower left. Disregard.

I tried the 143eldx, 140 eld, and 120amax. Only got out to 100 today due to time restraints.

Chassis came in

Looks like I'll start out with the eld x and see how they do.

What mags are you running with the chassis? I need to get a couple more, but I want to put it in a chassis as well, don't want to waste money on the mags if they don't fit. Would love something with more capacity.

Strongly considering the Predator in 308. Also considering the Savage 10 FCP in a 18 or 20" barrel. I'd like to pair with a suppressor which is why i'm looking at threaded barrels.

I can't get over the green stock but some of these pics look better than the online store pics. Boyds has some great looking stocks but not sure i could change it out myself.

Any comments are always appreciated!

mdt lss.

I'll be testing at 200 next time to confirm speeds and drops and then will move to 300 and 400. Decided to save my factory ammo for the next trip. Hopefully I'll have my Hornady bushings to start reloading by next trip.

Went to the range today. I was being rushed since the range shuts down at 5:30. In less than 45 minutes, I had two different types of ammo dialed in (shooting more frequently than I prefer to). The Hornady whitetail and ELD-X both did well (sub-moa at 100). When I get another chance, I'll spend a lot more time at the range and see how small I can get the groups to be. I might pick up a reloading kit after Christmas.

Took mine to the range today and put a 25 dollar muzzle brake on it and recoil was almost nonexistent. 3 shot group, just got some IMR 4350 and ordered some Barnes 127 LRXs now that I have some brass.

Texas City Gun Range, best range I've been to. Bad thing it's only 100 yds, so you can't open it up.

Got the scope installed today, a Vortex viper 3-16-44 MOA HS-T and hit the range. Shooting 143gr ELDX in factory Hornady Ammo. Got it bore sighted and on paper, cleaned and brushed. 1st pic was getting there, second pic after gun had cooled, two rounds then one after adjustment. After it cooled again did a 3 shot group looked like the first two but right on. The range was getting crowded and did not go get a pic. Very pleased so far.

Go out and shoot it first. See how you like it.

I put about 50 rounds thru mine yesterday out to 400.

One thing I'll be doing is lightening the trigger.

Here is a link I found with directions.

https://thefiringline.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=519494

I'd like to get mine to around 2lbs or slightly less.

I've shot it. Not bad recoil at all. I added weights and filler material to the stock so it's much heavier than factory. Just weird having a threaded barrel with nothing on it.

My trigger is a little over 3# using the factory adjustment. I polished it on a stone to remove the gritty feeling. It's one of the best triggers in my arsenal.

How are you guys smoothing out the action without disrupting lug lockup? I hate the zipper sound when working the bolt.

I have not done it yet but I just watched a YouTube where a guy used bore polishing compound (J and B maybe???) and worked the action a BUNCH! This was on a Ruger American and it really polished it up and smoothed it out. When I get back to my office I can post a link.
