    What Lens?

I have a canon rebel XTI, wanting a good zoom lens to take pics of, its a good cam but I am kinda inexperienced at taking good photos. Any suggestion on settings. Should I set the dial on portrait, auto, the letters? I dont want a high dollar zoom lens to start with, been reading like maybe a 70-200? for roughly 250-400 dollar range. Thanks for any help.

The 70-200mm f/4 L non-IS (image stabilization) version is a great lens. You can find them used for $400-450. Canon's L series lenses are top of the line.

Here is a great book written by our own Russell Graves: http://www.texasbowhunter.com/merchandise.shtml

It will give you a good start on how a camera works and how to take outdoor pics.

The 70-200 mm lens is a good lens, your just not gona be able to reach out as far as you might think. Canon has a 75-300mm lens that has the image stablizer built in, its a bit more (i think around 600 or so) but it will fit most hunters needs.
