Correct

I frequently find that some bourbons I don’t like initially seem to improve after I let them sit a few weeks. Not sure if it is the oxidation taking place or my palate changing.

Yep. There is a high dollar word for it, but a few weeks or months often helps flavor. Light, heat and oxygen are bad for whiskey over the long term. The Whiskey Wash has a great article on it.
