Good luck! If I didn't put "free range" in my thread everyone would think high fenced hunt in Texas.

I have often wondered after two weeks of chasing ELK up and down in the mountains in rain, sleet, snow,wind,....down the canyon, up the canyon, up the canyon, down the canyon. getting a bull to come in and decide to just hang at 75 yards.... Sometimes I have wondered .....this is not a
fair chase ....but so worth it. Just being up in the mountains and being a part of the wild, thats the payoff!! Putting an ELK down is the icing. Ya gotta always enjoy the cake! Each year you get smarter and leaner.

We are truly blessed to be able to do that.

High fence is something that is probably here to stay. Some like it. Of course some like sushi too. To each his own. I know the difference. Sounds like you do to

Good luck to all you guys! We leave in 25 days for our NM elk hunt.

This is the 4th year we've hunted this ranch. We've never been there this early but wanted to try it hopefully before they are herded up in big groups. We will see what happens.

Full moon is late August and late Sept this year.

What's the latest and greatest topo map to get? Need a new one, I think the last one I got from mytopo.com or something. Also, anyone else here use the UTM coordinates? I find it easier to determine my location on the map using them.
