New Mexico Elk
I got an email today I was drawn for a New Mexico Elk hunt in Unit 36. Has anybody hunted the unit in the past and have any information to offer and/or is any body on the green screen going to hunt it this year.

What dates? It is a quality unit and has some of the biggest bulls in NM.

Is'nt that down by the Mescalero? I've hunted there several times and the bulls are huge...at least on the reservation.

I talked to a couple of outfitters this afternoon but none of them gave me that "warm fuzzy feeling". Not sure I can afford them anyway. Anyone have any outfitter recomendations.

36 is on of the best units in New Mexico I have a friend that guides that area if need one

1st thing you need to do is buy a Lincoln National Forest Map it covers Unit 36. A lot of the forest burned last year so you want to stay south of HWY 70. I haven't hunted 36 but do some fishing in the Unit. When your coming into Ruidoso on HWY 70 the are several entrances to the forest. I have takes several of these roads looking for turkey and elk off the roads with much success. You have a great shot at a big bull good luck.
