Default no disc,no plow, seeds.

Does anyone have luck with any of these no plow type seeds? I plant with my four wheeler and a small disc and harrow usually, but 4 wheeler is in shop and disc needs work as well so was thinking of getting my ranger and harrow and trying the no plow this year. That way there is a little something other than my usual protein since I am not sure I will get to plant my spring pea mix in time.

I've tried them in small out of the way places. Results are so so. You get what time you put in. On a different note I have a great plow I will sell you. Pulls great behind a 4 wheeler.

Im curious about the no till stuff as well. Not sure if this is a good time of year, but rye grass will grow on concrete with a little water.

If you can find it, Elbon Rye is one deer-attracting rye grass, hands-over Gulf Annual Rye anyday.

Other than pure attraction, does the Rye offer any significant protein levels?

I've used Imperial No-Plow on three different occasions. It grew GREAT . And i never saw a deer eat one bite of it. I won't use because the deer don't seem to like it, at least in Jack County.

Saw some no-till stuff on sale few years ago at Academy, late season. Thought what the heck, had a kinda bare place to throw it in back 40. Donno if conditions were right or what, but came up a lot better than some plots I put a lot of work into. D

Elbon Rye is a cereal grain, like wheat. It is different than rye grass. From my experience in planting cereal Rye, either Elbon, or Maton, is that you better have alot of grazing pressure on it or it will get coarse and less palatable to wildlife in late Nov. early Dec. with adequate moisture.

Just my $.02.

Elbon rye is a cereal grain not to be confused with rye grass

You can get a good food plot with truly 'no till' IF you mow as close as possible, rake off all the vegetation and then overseed just prior to a rain. Good soil contact and quick rain are the keys to no till. No rain and the birds and deer will get all the seed.
Wheat, rye (grain rye...not rye grass) and clovers or brassicas do very well with no tilling. Rye grass is very difficult to get rid of once it gets started. I'd stick with grain rye unless it's a plot you may never care about again. Rye grass dies and leaves a very dense mat on top of the ground and is a very aggresive reseeder.

My son and I both used throw and grow in a small area and it worked great. He put the seed out in one day and fertilized with a 13-13-13 mixture. Probably the best part was, we hit the rain just right. Even in April the plot was still growing. We are going to try again this year and hope for the same results.
