Exclamation Owswalt to Phillies!

The Astros just traded Roy Owswalt to the Phillies. The Astros got J.A. Happ and minor leaguers Anthony Gose and Jonathan Villar.

It is a start to rebuilding but I wish they would have started at the very top with Drayton and worked down from there

Dumping salary, like the rest of America. We aren't exactly a contender (understatement of the century) and yet we have a high payroll. Time blow the team up and go through some "rebuilding" years

Roy is a great pitcher. But he needed to go. Now they need to get rid of two more. Berkman and Carlos then they can start over.

Wonder if the Phillies owner will give him a new D6N Dozer if he clinches a pennant. Can't blame him but he is just another Ship Jumper.

Did they at least get a catcher out of the deal, bc it seems that Castro is falling under the same lines as every other catcher they have had. Awesome on defense but no offense. Need to let Lee go and give Berkman early retirement. With those 3 gone, that should free up about $30 million a year.

Roy O is a great pitcher and I am sad to see him go but it was for the best for both parties. If we can unload Carlos Lee that would be great. I would like to keep Lance if not only because he can be the leader of a new team however he has never wanted that job.

What is the scope on the guys we got. Can they start tomorrow and what positions do they play?

I understand and maybe my choice of words were not the best but is chaps me to no end when these guys (premadonas) start airing their displeasure in the middle of a season. Especially when he/they knew good and well that this and possibly the next few are going to be rebuilding years. If he wasn't smart enough to see that then maybe he doesn't need to be getting paid what he is getting paid. It's like sometimes they go in thinking well "If I am able to produce and get this group of "ragtags" to the playoffs then I become that much more valuable". But then 1/3 -1/2 way throug the season that their "dream" just ain't gonna happen so they want out.

This is a good trade for the Astros. And thats not even knowing the whole deal.
Lifetime Astros fan here, Roy was one of my favorites to watch, but time to move on for him and the organization. It made business sense.

Roy is a class act and in no manner do I consider him a ship jumper. At some point, even the "capitan" knows when to go overboard... The 'stros have the makings of a very good team with some of the young guys they brought up this year with Pence and Bourne. Berkman has value as a leader figure, but I don't know if it's worth his salary to keep him around. I personally would like to see Berkman stay because he is also a class act and one of the few professional atheletes that I would consider a good role model for young people... people like that are hard to come by and usually bring positive things to any organization.

I wish Roy all the best.

I know it had to be done for them to rebuild but it still sucks to see Oswalt go. I see they still have not even signed LSU signee delino deshields jr.. This kid is awesome and they are crazy if they dont get him signed. im happy either way if he stays at LSU or goes to the Stros.

Nope. Haap is a pitcher and was runner up for NL ROY last year. The other two are YOUNG minor leaguers with speed but no pop.

To make it worse, Villar has FORTY TWO errors in 90 some-odd games this year. I didn't think that was even possible.

Well if you are going to rebuild let's go for it. Might as well see what you can get for Berkman and Carlos Lee also.

houston is always rebuilding because they seem to always trade away their good players for a handful of mediocre/crap players....been going on for decades....

While we're dumping Matsui needs to be gone as well! He's earning way more than his worth!

Astros have already flipped one of the players (anthony gose) from philly for a major league ready first baseman (Brett Wallace) I like it, Gose was a Bourn clone (all speed no pop)

I'm glad to see him go. IMO a pitcher is a leader and if they dont want to be here then we don't want them here. Kind of like a kick in the arse to him since he was only a win away from tying the alltime win record for the astros... I wouldn't mind to see C. Lee go but Berkman needs to stay atleast to see if he can get the strength back into his legs during the off season. I would like to see a speed guy with a little pop take over Lees spot in the OF.
