Default Tough Boot Recommendations...

It's like parting with an old friend. But I figured this Christmas, I would ask Santa for a new pair of boots.

This pair has seen me through some tough miles, but at nine years of age, I think it's time to break in a new pair. These are Vasque Sundowners that were made in Italy. Now, they're being made in China. What kind of hiking/hunting boots would you recommend that are all leather and tough? Thanks!

Tom

Danner Canadians. Had my pair for 12 years through Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and now Texas. Couldn't ask for a better boot. Customer service with them is great also!

I've had a pair of cabela's brand made by danner boot's for 10years. They have gone to Alaska and some tough hunting here in Texas. I love them and I am like you. It's time to trade them in. I think Danner is the maker of boots for me. They are well worth the price.

Danner makes good boots.

I got a pair of AKU (made in Italy) boots this year and wore them elk hunting. They are far and away a step up from Danner pronghorns (which I have two pair of and love them), in regard to support and just being a tougher boot. I would look at the Cabelas Alaskan hunters or the Lowa sheephunters if I were to purchase again, just happen to catch the AKUs on sale.

Tom - I can relate to how you feel about your Vasques.
I'm on my third pair of Vasques. But I don't wear them as much as I wear my military desert boots. The desert boots are quite a bit lighter and are very comfortable when you put a GOOD set of EVA insoles in them. I'm on my 5th or 6th pair of desert boots? What I like about them is they are CHEAP!! always less than $70, usually less than $50. Heck, the good insoles can be $25.

Watch out for the brand names, especially for people that have had boots a long time. Now, the good boots you bought 10 years ago are being made in China.
I was disappointed with Russell. About 2 years ago I decided to cough up the money for a custom pair. After sending in the drawings and numerous phone calls, they wouldn't give me the time of day, couldn't find the drawings, etc.
Still don't know of any.

Got my first pair of Danners this past October. And I did what I know you should never do. I put them on brand new and hiked miles each day for 5 days straight on a black powder mulie hunt in NM. The boots performed fantastic and I never got a blister or even tired feet. I'll definitely have more.
