After the post of the really nice metal hunting seat here and my commenting that I made mine out of PVC, I received a couple of PMs asking for pictures. I've made several over the years, and each time try to improve them and make it simpler, and more comfortable. This one from last season is about as simple and comfortable as I can make it.
I had some old carpeting laying around for the cover, I Gorilla glued and nailed it to the 1x4 seat, decking screws hold the wood to the PVC. I squirted Gorilla glue all over when done to give it some more stregth. Originally the bottom "T" fitting had about 4 inches of PCV sticking out the bottom to go in the mud, but I left it in the mud in a tulie patch open weekend, and it still works as well the way it is now. What works out well is I have a Cabelas backpack/ blind bag. I open the rope that goes around the hole at the top, slide the stool in with the seat on the top, and then cinch the rope tight to close the bag, and hold the seat. Then I pull the top piece over and buckle it down to the bottom straps. A picture is worth the thousand words. This works walking as well as riding a mountain bike to make some time- in waders.
![]() I can carry 1/2 dozen featherlite decoys, and everything I need for a day in the refuge hunting on my back- including a box of Ritz crackers for my buddies and I to munch on. One other thing I do- is I bought a bunch of Tupperware containers to organize my hunting gear by category in the garage- knives, optics, calls, etc. I use one of those containers to put all the small 'stuff' that would otherwise wind up on the bottom of the blind bag in a single, dry place. Glasses, bug repellent, a first aid kit, extra flashlight and batteries, I can stick a couple of sandwhiches in aluminum foil in there generally, too. It's packed full, but if I slide it in the bag 1st, the flat part of it is against my back, and turns out to be more comfortable than having something pushed and stick into my ribs. In the Cali public waterfowl refuges, you can either get a reserved blind or hunt "free roam", which is what we typically do since we know the refuges and can watch where the bird are working/ landing with binoculars and then move quickly to another place if that's where the activity is. Unless there is another group of hunters there, in which case the rules say 100 yards between groups- which can still get a little 'dicey' if guys shoot birds you're group is calling and working- but it's public land hunting. Duck clubs are for the 'rich' guys. |

Hey! If the seat works...use it! Looks like you've got it going on.
