Default 2 Great Blanco County Bucks, 10/9 and 10/31

First Post!

Me and my dad have had a great season this year. I shot my 4 1/2 year old 10 point on the evening of 10/9/9. He came in with 3 other deer, and the slicktrick took him out before he knew what hit him. He nearly made P&Y at 121 7/8", but he is my largest buck to date with gun or bow.

On Halloween, me and my dad decided to hunt together in one of our 25 foot tower stands that has two seats up on top that we built especially to video out of. As we approached the stand, we saw there were 3 deer under the feeder. From 160 yards, we hunkered down and glassed and realized that a particular buck my dad had been wanting to shoot was under the feeder eating. He was a buck that we had pictures of last year on the game cameras, and he had grown into a great looking animal. After watching for about forty minutes, two of the bucks started to mosey off across a large field that is adjacent to the feeder, and the buck my dad wanted started to work its way off in another direction through the brush. After they had cleared out, we decided to approach the blind just out of sight in a thick treeline, and after about five minutes we were at the stand. After sitting in the stand for about an hour, the feeder went off, and with it came a really nice looking 3.5 year old 8 point. He's going to be a biggun one day if he can make it a couple of more years. After watching him eat, a momma cow and calf came in. The calf was standing under the feeder, and had scared off the young 8 point. After the calf had been attempting to eat the corn for about 10 minutes, we caught a glimpse of a doe busting across a clearing about 30 yards behind the feeder. About 50 yards behind her was the buck we wanted. As he crossed, eyeing the corn, the calf charged after him and scared him into the brush (watch video 1). Me and my dad were about ready to send that calf to the slaughter! A few minutes later, the doe that the buck was courting was ready to come in for some corn, but once again, the calf chased her off! It was very nerve racking and upsetting to say the least. Finally, the calf sprinted off to be with momma, and thankfully the doe had been hungry enough to stick around. Shortly after the doe came to the feeder, the big 8 worked his way into eat. We watched him for a couple of minutes until he turned broadside enough for the shot. With a slightly quartering shot at 20 yards, my dad drew and made his shot. He hit him a little bit back, but I felt like it still looked like a lethal shot. 40 yards later, he was on the ground. It was the first hunt I had every videoed, and I did not expect to get such a huge adrenaline rush! It felt like I had just shot the deer.

It has been a great season, and it was really a special Halloween!

Definitely check out the youtube, which is attached, or search "marshall productions bowkill". The calf is in the first, the shot is in the second (3:03 into it), and the recovery is the third.

Thanks yall, and good luck out there!

Congrats to both of you! You need to do something about the noise that camera makes when you zoom in and out. That would spook a "big one" I would think.

Congrats again,

Bisch

It's really strange actually, and everyone who I've watched the video with has said the same thing. That is the first time to use that camera for video, and the sound is actually the camera itself auto-refocusing. Now it sounds very loud on the video, but when you are actually using it, it is just barely audible. The camera is actually a regular digital camera that was meant just for regular photos, but it can take up to 30 minutes worth of video. All in all, it did a pretty decent job, and hopefully that tiny bit of noise doesn't spook the big daddy one day!
