Default 1st Trad Buck

Well I guess this story starts last week, I had a long week at work and really didn’t think I was up to hunting this weekend. In fact I didn’t hunt Saturday but I just couldn’t let a weekend of bow season go without being in the woods (mesquite flats). So I got up Sunday morning Nov 1st at 2am headed to my place, got in the blind around 5:30am and got squared away. I had a feeling this was going to be the morning I took my first buck with traditional gear. I sat in the dark thinking how wonderful my life is and how blessed I am to experience this outdoor life. As night gave way to the sun I began to watch a woodpecker and a dove dance with each other over what each thought was their branch. Around 7am I felt my blind shake like crazy I thought this wonderful world I was daydreaming of had just come to an end as something had hit one of the blinds tie down lines. Then I thought the neighbors **** cows were back, but just then at 11 yards I caught TINES out of the front window of the pop up. I immediately knew he was a mature buck, very dark almost black shoulders, I could see that he was tall. I already had my recurve in my hands, so I slowly began to draw. When I got to full draw I caught movement out to the right, there was three other younger bucks running with him. A fork horn pegged me so I refocused on my original spot and let the perfect arrow go. It was like slow motion, I saw the arrow stick right behind the front shoulder and bury up to the pink and black fletching. The buck took a giant leap and I heard a loud snap, as he began to run half of the arrow fell on the first jump and the other half fell out the other side as he turned. I sat there and listened and heard a loud crash, it was at that moment I began to shake uncontrollably. I was unable to function I was shaking so much. I had just shot my first trad buck, I waited an hour before I went to look for him (Hell I had to I still couldn’t walk). I went to the where he was standing and found the arrow and blood immediately, we followed blood for 40 yards and there he was stuck in a tree. I had to just take a moment and thank GOD for blessing me ( I know you see everyone do it but I think we owe what we do to someone bigger than us for me its GOD for you it may be someone else). As we dressed him out, it was the perfect shot right through the heart. I had him MY FIRST TRAD BUCK!!!!!!!

Shhh Gene is telling a story!! I can't believe a man of your caliber has never shot a buck with trad gear before. What happened, did they give you the keys to the breeder pen. Just kidding you!! I am kinda p.o.'ed at your arrow choice though.
Congrats on a great first trad buck and hopefully many more to come.

Great story Gene! For a "first traditional buck" you hit the jackpot my friend! I'd like to be able to tell you that the "shaking" goes away after time, but I wouldn't be telling the truth. Thanks for taking us along on this very special morning! Congradulations!

That's the MeanGene Predator persona. I can't remember when I've ever seen him smile.

Very nice buck for your first (or anywhere along the continuum) and nice write up also. Congrats man.

Ok guys, I saw it first hand. I got there about 20 mins after he let the arrow fly. He was grinning ear to ear and shaking so bad he couldn't text. I should have got a pic of his face when we found that deer in the tree. Yep he was grinning. I was glad to be a part of it. Congrats Gene.
